A photographer makes a photograph. Holding a camera, they compose, light, time, and frame a scene, then expose the frame so an image exists that did not before. What they produce is the captured photograph itself, a card of raw files. The work reaches them from a commissioner who funds the shoot and an art director who sets the look. They hand the frames to a photo editor who picks the finals and a retoucher who corrects them. This trade brings the made image into being.
