Painted the work.
A painter applies pigment to a surface to make an original painting. Working from a brief or an idea, the painter develops a composition and builds the image in layers of paint until the work exists. Direction comes from a commissioner who orders the work and an art director who sets its look. The finished canvas then passes to a restorer who corrects its condition, a conservator who preserves it, and a gallerist who brings it to the public. The painter brings the painting itself into being.
