visual-art:collagist
Selected and placed existing pieces into a collage.
A collagist builds a new image from pieces that already exist. They gather found photographs, magazine clippings, vintage paper, and prints, then cut, tear, layer, and paste them, or composite them in software, until a new whole holds together. The source images come from photographers, painters, illustrators, and printmakers, often guided by an art director or commissioner. The finished collage then moves on to printers, galleries, and conservators. What the collagist adds is choosing and placing parts so a new whole exists.
