Made moving images frame by frame or digitally.

An animator makes moving images. Working frame by frame or with digital tools, the animator brings a sequence of separate moments into being so that motion appears where there was none. The added thing is the movement itself, set down in key poses and keyframes that define how a figure acts. Direction and staging come from the art director and storyboard artist, and a rigger provides the digital puppet. The finished frames pass to inbetweeners and clean-up artists. This trade originates the motion.
