A songwriter writes a song. Their work is the composition: the melody, the words, the harmony, and the structure of verse, chorus, hook, and bridge. Often a songwriter builds this vocal line over an instrumental track delivered by a producer or beatmaker, writing to its set tempo and key. The finished song then passes to the singers and players who record it and to the producer who shapes that recording. The songwriter makes the song itself exist.
