journalism:correspondent
Covered a beat or region and filed original stories from the field.
A correspondent is a journalist posted to a beat or region who reports the news firsthand from where it happens. They cultivate sources, conduct interviews, observe events, verify facts on deadline, and file an original story marked with a dateline. Their assignment comes from an assigning editor, and fixers and local reporters often supply access and sources. Once filed, the story passes to editors, fact-checkers, and a publisher. What this trade adds is original news, gathered and written on the ground.
