film:makeup-artist
Applied makeup, shaping how performers appear on camera.
A makeup artist builds the face a performer wears on camera. Working from the script, they plan each look for period, age, injury, or transformation, then apply paint, wax, silicone, and prosthetic pieces to the skin. The director and production designer shape the world it must fit, and the chosen actors are its starting point. On set, the artist applies and maintains each look, which the actor performs in and the cinematographer photographs. What this trade adds is the look the camera sees.
