A peer reviewer reads a completed educational resource and judges it against the standards of the subject. The work produces a written verdict, scored against set criteria and explained with reasons, that other teachers and institutions can read and act on. Reviewers receive the resource from authors and compilers, and from the subject experts who shaped it, then send findings back to authors for revision and onward to developmental and copy editors. What this trade adds is a considered judgment of scholarly merit, stated plainly.
