Wrote the descriptions of the images so the resource can be taken in without seeing them.
An image describer writes the prose that stands in for a picture. Working image by image, they judge what each figure does at that point in the resource, then write short alternative text and, for maps, graphs, and diagrams, a longer description that walks the image part by part. The resource and its figures come from authors, compilers, and subject experts; the finished descriptions go on to the technical editor, who places them in the file, and to reviewers and copy editors. The description is the describer's own composition.
